Customer Rating: Summary: RAD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Comment: Man, what a treat ! I was hooked on this band upon the release of their much acclaimed ¨The Fat Of The Land¨ album so as soon as this dvd was launched I knew I had to get myself this visual document. I already had a dvd of a show of a TV broadcast of a festival in Phoenix in 96 but this dvd is in a totally different league. Main feature is concert at the Brixton Academy in 97; why such an old concert when there are tons of gigs of this bands recorded with good quality ? Because this one is the best of them all; they were at their peak/heyday and presenting ¨The Fat Of The Land¨,so half of the setlist is from that album, which is great, and there also are 3 more tracks from Glastonbury 95, RedSquare in Moscow 97 (watch the ruskies going crazy over ¨Their Law¨ -priceless-) and another one at Pinkpop 2005. All this makes for like 1 1/2 hour of concert with KILLER perfect PCM 2-channel stereo sound, no 5.1, and 4:3 crystal-clear picture feauturing mega-fast MTV-styled editing .13 tracks in all.
The video section features 15 videos of their singles and runs for another 1 1/2 hours. These are super-cool and in incredible stereo dolby digital 2-channel(Spitfire realy put my speakers to a test); it features THE most amazing bottom end I'v e ever heard on a DVD). Most of the videos are in 4:3 aspect ratio which will annoy owners of 16:9 tvs.
On my edition, which is a rare region 5, russian made dvd, each feature is recorded in a separate chapter that is oddly numbered ¨63¨or ¨69¨ when there aren't that many on the dvd but there are no chapters; every song is tracked but the display won't show it, you have to go to the menu and select from there. I didn't have a problem with that save for the fact that you don't get any info on how much each track lasts, elapsed time, nothing.
All in all a must-have for fans of this band, even the casual ones like me.
Customer Rating: Summary: Brilliant Collection!!! Comment: Definately worth the money to buy rather than to download the individual songs. If you are a true fan, then you'll notice how the songs (most not all) are ever so slightly different than the original. They're labeled nothing special, but it's just a little incentive to buy the album. The special edition is well worth the money, the second disc is full of remixes, b-sides, and live reditions. This one is for the fans for sure. Granted Baby's Got a Temper would have been a good addition, but i'm not dissapointed in the album at all.
Work of art.
Customer Rating: Summary: Prodigy fans will Marry it........ Dance music fans will Love it, and everyone else will thinks its good. Comment: If this was a Double disc, containing all videos created by Prodigy and instead of the Live gig being filmed in 97, have the best of tour they did last year. Then I would of given this a rating of 5 or even higher.
But its Prodigy, and as I feel this is the best dance group of all time, it should be a number one buy on a Prodigy fan's list.
Videos that didnt appear on Electronic Punks (a VHS containg videos and interviews) are there, such as Baby, spitfire and voodoo (Pendulum remix)extra live tracks and behind the scenes footage are also there......
All on one disc for around a tenner. Cheap As!!!
U like music..... get it
U like dance..... get it
U like anarchy... get it
U like Prodigy... get off your seat now and go out and buy it.
DOWN SIDE: is the fact its not in 5.1 but just turn it up and get your readers on, as its visually stunning and at a loud volume, will blow your speakers.
Enjoy
Customer Rating: Summary: dissapointed Comment: I was extremely dissapointed that the dvd was not in 5.1. Although the visiual quality was just what you expect from the prodigy lively, energetic and exciting the sound quality is poor. This is a band who are supposed to be at the cutting edge of music, yet I have purchased the woodstock gig filmed in the early 70s and its in 5.1 the sound quality is amazing for an old gig. Dont by the dvd it will only dissapoint, stick to the audio cd.
Customer Rating: Summary: Not sure about the first review Comment: I'm not sure why the first reviewer says that the videos might stop you liking the band. In my opinion they only help to take you through the bands journey. The early videos encaptulate the band in the hay day of British rave culture. These videos look a little childish because thats what the rave culture was about. People packed in to warehouses dancing with glow sticks, blowing whistles and wearing glow in the dark face masks. The earlier videos perfectly capture this time. The next set of videos from Music for the Jilted Generation perfectly capture the dark grungy development of the band. Each video is a little darker as we progress in to the next album the fat of the land. Here we have ground breaking videos like firestarter and breathe. The prodigy managed to inspire me time and time again with each album they released. Liam Howlett managed to perfectly capture dance culture at that time of each release and has kept the music fresh for almost two decades. I feel that this dvd only helps you realise how important the Prodigy were to the rave culture and ultimately the house music culture of today. The prodigy helped develop house music in to the main stream and have been at the cutting edge for a long time now. If this dvd doesn't help you to understand the band and therefore enjoy their music more, then you don't understand what they are about. And finally you get a live concert from Brixton Academy, which is fantastic. I would certainly recommend this dvd to anyone who is a die hard fan of the prodigy, but also to anyone who wants to see a flashback of rave culture in its hay day glow sticks and all.
