Customer Rating: Summary: THE Box set to buy if you're a Stargate fan Comment: I was toying with getting the older box-set many months ago. I'd scoured the retailers and eBay and noticed the two different varients of the time. But then I spotted on one that there was a new box-set coming out which had one of the Movies included into it, and looked to solve the numerous comments that the older sets had received owing to poor packaging. Also, the price of the newer set was actually less than the older ones were fetching on eBay.
So I decided to wait as it was a bit of a no-brainer.
What arrived has met my expectations and I am glad I made this decision.
It is a simple box set container, with simple multi-disc plastic DVD cases that hold the discs fine. It's not glamourous or exciting, but it does the job.
There is no booklet or documentation (that I could find), which I found a tad disappointing, but then if I wanted an episode synopsis, I could just as easily go on the internet and find one.
The series plays out just as I remember, and there are many, many episodes that I must have missed, because there were several that I had not seen. It's interesting to watch them over, because you can appreciate how the series developed over the years, including the ever-changing seasonal hair-styles...
The discs themselves have all played perfectly with the exception of 2, which locked up my DVD player (a high-end Sony DVD/HDD recorder) at a certain point. I initially resolved this by starting that particular episode at the next chapter, then rewinding a bit. I'd miss out about 4 or 5 minutes of the show as it must have been a troublesome section of disc. When it happened on the second disc, I decided to try it in a different player (Playstation 3) and much to my delight, the PS3 happily sailed through the sections of disc that my main player was struggling with. I'd heard stories of PS3 being good at playing difficult discs, but I'd not had first-hand experience of it, so that's good.
For those not fully familiar with the series, it carries on from where the initial Feature-Film left off, by opening up many other possible destinations for the Stargate to travel to. There are several overriding story arcs which play out over the course of all the series and help to tie it all together. The acting is all good (for a TV series) and some of the storylines are original and creative. (Others are much less-so, and some seem like blatant Star-Wars-esque rip-offs...). There are occasional dry-spells with the script-writing, but considering the length of the series, I think that can be forgiven (although one dry-spell of 4 or 5 episodes in a row at one point had me worried... )
It's a highly worthwhile purchase, but just be warned that it will take an absolute age to get through it all.
Highly recommended.
Customer Rating: Summary: Nice Comment: I'm glad I picked this up. It's keeping me occupied.
There's not too much of that irritating fluff to click through in vain as it loads as some DVD's force on us. There's some pleasent extras throughout the discs, behind the scenes with the actors, and other with directors, and the occasional special featurette too. There's others too, but I haven't bothered accessing things like galleries of stills.
Customer Rating: Summary: Stop fretting and buy it! Comment: I may be taking a bit of a chance with the title of my review, as "luck of the draw" can sometimes enter into things, but I have to say that after dithering over my choice of versions of the Stargate series, I'm very pleased with my eventual-purchase!
So far I'm halfway through Series 3 - and no problems. Picture and sound quality is fine, and there's little fuss in getting into each episode (I usually choose my own, instead of just going into "play"). The packaging is fine, too - quite compact, and each disc is securely held in it's own folder, easy to remove and return without damage. The price is, in my view, a fair one too.
What more can a person ask of a DVD set? Hope it helps if you are in the boat I was, a few weeks ago!
Customer Rating: Summary: Brilliant but Comment: This is an amazing collection and i have had it for 2 weeks now...i look today and find it is half price at £90
Just my luck hey lol buy them quickly!!!
This is an amazing price for 10 series and film and is one of the most imaginative storylines and series i have ever watched!
Just brilliant
Customer Rating: Summary: this is an awsome box set Comment: i used to own the individual season box sets until i got this one. this set contains all the special features and even the same artwork for the dvd's and the same menu graphics of the individual seasons. so essentially you're getting the same stuff for the fraction of the price and better packaged, like the atlantis sets. awsome
